Biochar Production

BIOCHAR PRODUCTION CENTER IN LIMBE MILE 2. SHELTER FOR WASTE COLLECTION STORAGE.

The Buma Foundation is currently undertaking a project to build a biochar production center in Limbe Mile 2 as well as a shelter for waste collection and storage.

Biochar is a type of charcoal that is produced from organic waste materials, such as agricultural waste or forestry residues, through a process called pyrolysis. Biochar has various beneficial uses such as acting as a soil conditioner, improving soil fertility, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The production center being built by the Buma Foundation will process organic waste materials to produce biochar, which will subsequently be sold to farmers and gardeners as a soil amendment. The shelter for waste collection and storage, on the other hand, will serve as a collection point for organic waste and other recyclable materials. Waste management has been a challenge in Limbe Mile 2 due to inadequate infrastructure and resources. The Buma Foundation’s shelter for waste collection and storage will help mitigate this challenge by providing a safe and organized space for waste collection and storage.

The Buma Foundation’s current project of building a biochar production center in Limbe Mile 2 and a shelter for waste collection and storage can have several benefits for orphans and underprivileged communities. Some of these benefits are:

  • Employment opportunities: The biochar production center can provide jobs for the local community, including orphans and underprivileged individuals who may have limited access to employment opportunities. This can help them become self-sufficient and improve their standard of living.
Environmental benefits: The biochar production helps to convert organic waste into a beneficial soil amendment that can improve plant growth and soil health. This can lead to increased food production, which can benefit orphans and underprivileged communities who may struggle to access nutritious food.
  • Waste management: The shelter for waste collection and storage can help to reduce the amount of waste in the community and prevent pollution. This can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for the orphans and underprivileged individuals who may not have access to proper waste disposal facilities.
  • Community development: The project can also contribute to the overall development of the community by providing training and education on sustainable agriculture practices and waste management. This can empower the local population to take action to improve their own lives and the environment around them.
